The winner of Miss Universe GH 2020, Chelsea Tayui, opened up on how she had to strive so hard to convince her mother when she decided to participate in the pageantry.
In an interview with Zion Felix on the Uncut Show, the beauty queen revealed it wasn’t easy for her to win over her mom when she decided to compete.
She added that she had to beg, push, and force her mom into supporting her pageantry dream.
The beauty queen saw herself as an odd member of her family, who she described as ‘nut and bolt’.
She advised African parents to give their children the freedom to explore their potentials rather than always wanting them to be lawyers, doctors, and engineers.
According to the beauty queen, her decision to join pageantry was borne out of trying to find something to distract herself with after difficulty with her academics.
However she made it clear that she was doing actually well in school but wasn’t happy with it.
She also debunked perceptions that girls who drop out of schools at some are not smarter.
