Female Corrections Officer Jailed For Having Sex With Inmate In Front Of 11 Other Prisoners

A California corrections officer has been jailed after she reportedly had sex with one of the inmates of the prison where she worked in full view of 11 others. Tina Gonzalez, who’s said to have a “depraved mind,” reportedly cut a hole in her pants in order to make having sex easier at Fresno County Jail, The Fresno Bee reports. Now, the 26-year-old will spend seven months behind bars herself as well as two years on probation upon her release.

Even Gonzalez’s boss was horrified. Speaking at Gonzalez’s sentencing hearing, her former boss, Assistant Sheriff Steve McComas, told the court that he was horrified by her behavior and had never witnessed anything like it despite seeing some “pretty disgusting things” while working there. “That is something only a depraved mind can come up with,” McComas said.

Gonzalez wasn’t just having sex with the inmate. The investigation into her behavior, which continued after her arrest and dismissal from her position in May 2020, uncovered plenty of other offenses. She was also supplying the same inmate with a cell phone and razors and would always warn him in advance when his cell was going to be searched so he could hide any contraband.

She’s shown “no remorse,” according to her former boss. McComas told the court that Gonzalez was unphased by her behavior and wasn’t sorry at all. “She took an oath which she betrayed and in doing so endangered her coworkers’ lives,” he said. “But she has shown no remorse. She continually calls and has sexually explicit conversations with the inmate in question and boasts about the crimes she carried out.”

Gonzalez pleaded no contest to the charges against her. However, McComas was gunning for her to get the maximum sentence, which would have been three years and eight months behind bars. Judge Michael Idiart disagreed, taking into account her lack of criminal history and the fact that she made a plea early.

The judge believes Gonzalez can change her life. “I think what you did was terrible, stupid and you have ruined your career,” Idiart told her. “But I also believe that people can redeem themselves and you have the rest of your life to do that. Good luck.”
